Today, December 1, 2008, His Excellency President Bharrat Jagdeo, acting in accordance with the powers granted to him in article 188 of the Constitution of the Republic of Guyana, has decided to and so do, grants a free pardon to Mr. Phillip Bynoe.
Mr. Bynoe is currently charged with the crime of treason.
The President had been written to by Mr. Bynoe since 2007 and until recently, applying to him for a pardon.
In his appeals, Mr. Bynoe informed the President about his remorse over the incident; the invasion of the Office of the President, and the destruction of public property. He also recognized that the event was an attack on a democratic institution of the state and not directed at the President.
Guyana360: This comes on the heels of revelations that some Fineman gang members had worked for a concession owned by the Bynoe family at Christmas Falls. Security officials are trying to find out if the camp was ever used as a training ground for new recruits. However, some questions must be asked. Is Bynoe helping with the investigations? What did Bynoe do to be pardoned? Did he learn his lesson?
Shortly after Mark Benschop was pardoned, Bharrat Jagdeo had stated that Bynoe, who had gone into hiding, must face the music. Guess the fat lady is singing and Bynoe can continue walking around Linden like he normally does.
